Media Bias Targeting The Low Information Voter

Nation Just Wants To Be Safe, Happy, Rich, Comfortable, Entertained At All Times...The Onion

  • I often start my blogs with a headline from The Onion, satirical publication. I do that because---more often than not---there's more truth in an Onion headline than you'll find in the main stream media headlines. And there's a reason for that. The main stream media is not only conspicuously bias (or as I like to refer to them as the "presstitutes"), it targets the low information voter and/or the useful idiots.
  • This was evident again after the jobless claims numbers came in today. They were up from last week but you wouldn't know it by reading the news. For example, Reuters put the following spin on it this way: "The number of Americans filing for jobless benefits rose slightly last week, but it was near its lowest level since before the 2007-2009 recession, a hopeful sign for the U.S. economy." Of course, there was no mention that the economic growth last quarter was pathetic. There were many headlines like the one from Reuters in other news publications today. In fact, going back to earlier this year when the economy actually retracted, USA TODAY wrote, "Dip In Economy Not So Bad."
  • We've seen this type of targeting on countless occasions. Just recently, USA TODAY wrote a piece about Hillary and her age at the time she would run for president. In "You Can't Age Hillary Out Of Race," they wrote: "She'll be 69 in 2016. So what? Reagan was 69 and McCain was 72 when they ran." USA TODAY conveniently neglects to point out that the media wrote multiple pieces about Reagan's alleged dementia. And jokes were abound regarding the ages of both Reagan and McCain. They even blasted Reagan for allegedly taking naps during the day when it was discovered he had been writing personal hand-written letters to Americans, many beautifully written by his own hand.

  • In both the 2008 and 2012 campaigns, we observed the media circling the wagons protecting Pres. Obama at every turn even in the face of his total lack of executive experience and later one failure after another.
  • It was not too long ago when the main stream media had to be shamed into covering and writing about the Gosnell case in Philadelphia. And during the same period, it was the media that invented a false and dishonest narrative surrounding the Zimmerman trial. Who can't forget CNN and others referring to Zimmerman as a "white Hispanic." They were so intent in making Zimmerman out to be the bad guy, they actually invented a new ethnicity.
  • Of course it didn't end there. Even before the one Boston Marathon bomber was eventually caught, many in the media were speculating it had to be a right-wing operation. Again, who can forget that knucklehead, Chris Mathews, who stated, "Normally, domestic terrorists, people tend to be on the far right."
  • The main stream media is smart in one respect. They know they target the dummies. The NY Post published a piece this morning about the NY public schools and student scores plummeting. For example, even after billions of tax payer dollars have been funneled into the school system, less than one-third of the city public school students were able to pass the math and reading tests. In one school, a whopping 1% passed this year's math and reading tests.
  • And we wonder how Pres. Obama got re-elected? Don't wonder. Just read the news. The media knows the nation is full of dummies. In fact, the media is full of dummies as seen by this guy who works for MSNBC:

Obama's Legacy: Diminishing The Power Of The Office Of The U.S. Presidency

Pres. Obama is going to appear on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. The most powerful man in the country is going to interview President Obama....Ferguson

  • Several months ago, Peggy Noonan wrote a piece with this headline: "The Obamas are everywhere, but doing nothing."
  • I thought about that headline when Pres. Obama appeared on Leno's show last night. During a period when we have almost two dozen of our embassies closed in the Middle East and when we had to evacuate Americans from Yemen in response to credible  threats by al-Qaeda, this president appears on a late night comic's show to discuss those issues and others (e.g., NSA surveillance).
  • I don't have a problem with Leno inviting the president. Leno is a comedian after all. I don't even have a problem with any president appearing on the late night shows. But there is an appropriate time and place for everything. At a time like this, an American president, any American president, should address the country directly and not through the lens of a late night show sandwiched by jokes.
  • Recently, I wrote a piece {prompted by an earlier article by Michael Goodwin of the NY Post} where I pointed out it's bad enough we have a poor-performing president, it's even worse when we have an absent one. Unfortunately for America---in this president---we have both.
  • For example, we still do not know where Pres. Obama was during the attack on our consulate in Benghazi. By any definition, that was an international crisis. It appears our president was nowhere to be found until he emerged at a fundraiser in Vegas the very next day. In fact, Pres. Obama shows little interest in the details of his job (just the opposite of Bill Clinton). It's reflected in the many trips he takes outside of the Beltway. Those trips place him in front of adoring crowds and campaign style events (usually colleges and universities). In turn, the enablers in the media make it appear he's engaged.  He's not. Obama is usually at specific locations to just raise more money for Democrats.

Ask Yourself: Can This Administration And Congress Be Trusted To Do Anything Right?

Congress Fiercely Divided Over Completely Blank Bill That Says And Does Nothing...The Onion

Note: Since this was posted, we now know they can't be. Obamacare lies covered up by the administration, Dems and their enablers in the media. All have been complicit in this fraud.

To be fair, one can make a case that government does some things right.  For example, the FAA does a damn good job of keeping our skies safe. The CDC does outstanding work in disease prevention and research. Although broke (according to whom you ask), Social Security recipients receive their checks on time in most cases. Our interstate highway system, although in need of work in many places, is a wonder to behold.

Having said that, this is about who is running our government. It's becoming increasingly clear (for many it's been known for a long time) that this administration and much of Congress cannot be trusted to do anything right especially when it comes to administrating and to policies. Let's count the ways this current administration and Congress has failed the American people:

  • Just this week alone, we've closed many of our foreign embassies on the Middle East, issued travel alerts (more serious than advisories) and Americans were directed to leave Yemen immediately. We appear to be a country in retreat in the face of the enemy.
  • As I wrote in my previous post, our foreign policy is a mess. We've observed relationships with Russia, the Middle East, N. Africa and S. America wither on the vine.
  • Domestically, it's become increasingly clear that any reference to an economic revival is pure fiction. Not only has our economic growth been anemic, but we now have over 100 million people receiving food stamps. Folks, that's in a country of 316M people. Do the math. We're still seeing over 300M+ people applying for first time unemployment claims EACH WEEK. As the employment data showed last year, 77% of the jobs created were part-time.
  • At this point in time ObamaCare appears to be a disaster. Most Americans---in almost every poll---don't like it nor do they want it. It's so bad even the administration was forced to delay the employer mandate several weeks ago (they don't want Democrat candidates running for office having to burden themselves with this monstrosity). It's so bad unions---who were big advocates of the law two years ago---continue to seek waivers from the law.
  • But perhaps more disquieting  than even the issues above is the conspicuous urge of this administration to lie at almost every turn. We've observed this behavior when it came to the Fast and Furious scandal, the many unanswered questions surrounding the attack on our consulate in  Benghazi, the IRS probe of conservatives and NSA's eavesdropping on American citizens. Just as disturbing is the fact that no one has been held accountable for these failures.
  • To add insult to all these injuries, we have a president who appears to be disengaged. Last week, Michael Medved  even wrote: "Obama escapes Washington at every opportunity for worshipful crowds in campaign style events..." He ends his piece by referring to the administration as adrift and in decay.
  • Perhaps the late George Carlin said it best: "I have certain rules I live by. My first rule? I don't believe anything my government tells me." Native Americans learned that lesson over a century ago. Most Americans are learning that lesson today.

The Other Obama Administration's Big Failure: Foreign Policy

"Last year Obama said al-Qaeda was on the run. He was right. They're running right out of their prison cells." My Tweet this week

Note: Since this was posted several month ago, Egypt is now moving closer to Russia. Kerry's Middle East trip re: Iran is falling apart and Israel cannot trust Obama. Syria, of course, remains a mess.
  • It would be ridiculous to blame Pres. Obama and the administration for all the insanity that is currently taking place in many parts of the world especially in the Middle East and North Africa. Nevertheless,  the administration's weak, spineless, incompetent and aimless foreign policy has its consequences.  This feeble foreign policy is currently being played out with over 20 of our embassies in the Middle East. The embassies have been closed because of very credible threats.  While closing those embassies is a good move from a practical and safety standpoint (recall Benghazi); it shows, yet again, the enemy is taking the war to us. In other words, we're now on defense.
  • To make matters worse, in the last few weeks, several thousand terrorists---many al-Qaeda---have busted out of their prison cells in Iraq, Libya, and Pakistan.
  • Even Russia is showing no fear. Just last week, they granted asylum to Edward Snowden over our fierce objections. Today Iran's new president reaffirmed support for Syria's murderous dictator, Assad. And who is the only world leader who has any influence over both of those regimes? Russia's President Putin.
  • Do you recall the myth of the "Arab Spring" created by our government and its enablers in the media almost two years ago? At the time, the United States backed the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. At the time, many---like moi---voiced our concerns about using the Muslim Brotherhood as a partner. Those warnings went unheeded. We now are witnessing the consequences of that foolish policy.
  • And this failed foreign policy does not end there. We've seen arms shipments from Cuba to N. Korea (found by Panama several weeks ago).
  • It also appears Iran keeps poking us is the eye considering they are moving ahead with their own uranium enrichment capabilities.  In fact, the mullahs throughout Iran have been preaching  for years that America is the arch enemy of Islam. Iran's new president is also on record as stating, "Israel has been a wound in the body of Islam for years." You can see where he is heading.
