The Eric Garner Incident: The Convergence of Bad Decisions, Bad Attitudes and Yes, Even Bad Laws

Step 1 in getting justice for Eric Garner: Boo the hearse-chasing assclown Al Sharpton off the stage...David Burge Tweet

I have to admit, the decision of this grand jury has me scratching my head. They decided there was "no reasonable cause" to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo. I've watched the video several times including longer versions that most networks failed to air. Perhaps the grand jury also viewed other footage. I don't know. But the video I viewed showed me the following:

  • Garner did not initially resist the police officers. He did when they proceeded to try to arrest him.
  • The officers were confronted with a very large man which explains whey it took five officers to try to subdue Garner. This is certainly not unusual even if you are a casual observer of any of the reality cop shows. In addition, there were 228,000 misdemeanor arrests in NYC in 2013 alone. You can bet that many of these also resulted in resistance and several police officers needed to subdue the subject. To my knowledge, none of those resulted in the death of the subject.
  • In this case, there was also a black NYPD Sgt. who appears to have supervised the incident.
  • I don't know if was chokehold or headlock. He did yell out that he could not breath. He did that on several occasions as the video clearly shows and the police backed up to give him some breathing room.
  • After several minutes, a female EMT officer arrives . Prior to the EMT's arrival, I did not observe any medical assistance given to Garner. She checks his carotid area to see if he had a pulse. According to the police at the scene, he was breathing. Nevertheless, allow me for a moment to rely on my military medic experience. In my opinion, the EMT should have arrived sooner and checked to make sure his airway was clear. At least on the video I watched, I did not observe the EMT doing that. In addition, since he complained about not being able to breath earlier, oxygen should have been administered if his airway was clear. Even as he was placed on the litter, I did not see any O2 used although we don't know what they did in the ambulance. He died in the hospital hours later.
  • The medical examiner ruled Garner's death a homicide. Garner suffered from a range of health issues including asthma.
That's essentially what we now know. It's also why it's imperative the findings of the grand jury should be made available to the public as in the Michael Brown case in Ferguson.

But what I do know is this. It appears there was a convergence of bad decisions, bad attitudes and even bad laws.

Like Michael Brown before him, the decision by Eric Garner to resist arrest was a bad one. It's been reported he had a history of previous arrests. In addition, it was also reported the store owners wanted Garner and others like him to stop selling his loose cigarettes in front of their stores. In fact, I believe it was a store owner who initially called the police on Garner.

I'm concerned about some of the bad decisions made by the NYPD in that incident including not offering him some type of medical assistance sooner. Having said that, the NYPD was placed in a position where they were enforcing a damn stupid law. That's right. Just as Obamacare and some recent acts to do with immigration,  there are bad and stupid laws. Everyday in this country, police walk by people sucking on a doobie. They give it no mind. But have a guy selling single cigarettes and all hell breaks loose.

Like Michael Brown before him, he appears to have had a bad attitude. Bad attitudes should not result in anyone's death but they do show a pattern of behavior.

If Garner, just like Michael Brown before him, had not resisted arrest, he would be alive today. Nevertheless, it's a sad commentary he's dead also because of a ridiculous law---a law largely based on the government collecting more taxes. And that takes precedence over any common sense.

For me (at least up to this point with what we know), this incident was a convergence of bad decisions, bad attitudes and even bad laws. As stated above, we need to have transparency with regard to how the grand jury came to their decision. What we don't need are the race-hustlers and punks who exploit these incidents largely for publicity and profit. What we do need are more facts and the evidence.

Do Republicans Know They Won A Landslide Mid-Term Election?

Jeb Bush: Pro Common. Pro Amnesty. Pro Presenting Undeserved Awards To Hillary. Jeb Bush the perfect 2016 candidate. For democrats...Fred Zeppelin Tweet
  • Just last month, the Republicans wiped the floor with the Democrats. In short, Republicans kicked their ass. The title of my article that day was: "Americans Took A Stand Last Week. Will Republicans?" Well, if the way Boehner and some of the Republican leadership is behaving, it appears they will not.
  • In the past, I've taken Republicans to task for a variety of reasons including being spineless and caving into the progressives in their party {"Is The Republican Party A Mirage" and "The Republican Party Remains An Illusion" just to name a few}.
  • It appears many Republicans have abandoned conservative core principles in the last two decades. Yet, when you gaze out over the Republican landscape, it's those Republicans who still embrace conservative principles who win elections. Scott Walker comes immediately to mind. Unlike most Progressive Democrats, Republicans have a knack for selling out their own base. They also appear to trip over their own fecklessness and stupidity.
  • So it shouldn't surprise anyone who watches Republicans tip-toeing through the tulips to observe Republican leadership caving again. As The Conservative View correctly pointed out via the Washington Times recently, John Boehner appears to have surrendered yet again. They reported: "House Speaker John Boehner has joined forces with key Republican leaders to shut down any GOP members who might want to strong-arm President Obama over immigration." This all has to do with any impending shutdown of the government next week in response to Pres. Obama threatening to shut down the government if his illegal immigrant amnesty is not funded.
  • I have a question for readers: How many of you even remember the last government shutdown? Very few do. About the only big news that came out of that shutdown was the government closing the WWII Memorial to WWII veterans. And that action struck a nerve because it was a disgrace and insult to the few remaining WWII veterans left in America.
  • Once again, Republicans need to be reminded they won big last month, really big. In addition, public opinion has moved sharply against Pres. Obama's immigration initiatives. And while five dozen Republicans oppose Obama's new immigration agenda, not so much with their own leadership.
  • It's so stunning that Breitbart is even reporting Boehner is will to do a deal with Nancy Pelosi to avoid a shutdown. By doing this, Breitbart reports Republicans risk giving more control to Pelosi's Democratic Caucus. Even more depressing, that nutty little man, Harry Reid, said he would throw his support behind Boehner's intention to fund Obama's amnesty plan through next March.
  • It appears we have more Beltway hypocrites in the guise of Republicans who also want to skirt the Constitution. All of this reminds me of a quote by David Burge last year: "The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing me I had quarters in my ears, or maybe that was Grandpa."

Obama & His New VP, Al Sharpton, Only Belittle The Memory Of Civil Rights Leaders Like MLK, Jr. And Others

Media/Dems intentionally choose "sketchy" civil rights causes to keep us divided. Righteous one would bring us together. Can't have that...John Nolte Tweet

  • Earlier this year, I pointed out how the election of Bill deBlasio as mayor of NYC would plunge the city into progressive hell. It actually didn't take long. By August, the mayor invited Al Sharpton on the dais---along with the city's current police commissioner---to discuss issues surrounding the NYPD.  In fact, the headline on the NY Post the following day was: "Who's The Boss" implying Sharpton was now running the city.
  • So it should not have surprised anyone that Pres. Obama also invited this tax-evading, race-baiting punk to the White House yesterday to discuss national police issues. Actually, Sharpton is no stranger to the White House. He's a regular visitor.
  • Sharpton manages to make himself appear to be central to any issues having to do with race relations even though he himself has a long history of inciting riots or being the point punk on civil unrest. The  Ferguson riots are a perfect example. Write Sharpton a check, and he'll make sure civil unrest, lies and myths keep being perpetuated. (I invite you to visit my July 20, 2013 piece on Sharpton entitled, "Al Sharpton: Race Baiting For Dollars.").
  • All of this and more is all you need to know about our current president. Even after six years in office, the first black President of the United States of America feels it's appropriate to invite a thug like Sharpton to the White House to discuss race and policing. Even the NY Post found it important to advise Obama today not to invited Sharpton to the WH again. They wrote: "President Obama should never again have the Rev. Al Sharpton at the White House. In American life today, it's hard to think of any figure more opposed to the idea of respecting a grand jury's considered decision than our Rev. Al." My only criticism with the Post is the use of "Reverend" before Sharpton's name. Someone once noted calling Sharpton a reverend would be like calling Jeffrey Dahmer a chef.
  • As I wrote yesterday {"Ferguson Illustrates How The Progressive Political Class Perpetuates False Narratives'}, facts and the truth don't matter to race hustlers and con artists like Sharpton. The distortions about incidents like Ferguson only empower people like him. And the media loves it as well as most of the nation's knuckleheads. All these punks manage to do by their actions and rhetoric is disparage and deprecate the memory of real civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ferguson Illustrates How The Progressive Political Class Perpetuates False Narratives

We've been successful in distracting the black community with Ferguson, otherwise they'd realize 4 million {illegal immigrants} just cut in front of them for jobs...WH Press Secretary Tweet

  • For some time, I've been writing about the warped ideology of the progressive political class. Whether it's their bold faced lies or their embracing of policies and practices that always fail, their disdain for America and its core ideals is conspicuous.
  • Ferguson just happens to be another blatant example of a disease unleashed upon our nation. In the case of the Ferguson grand jury's decision, truth and facts continue to be casualties of this perverted and corrupt ideology. (Note: you can read the facts of the grand jury's decision in my previous posts).
  • In the aftermath of the grand jury's decision, the nation was witness to punks who damaged and destroyed private property of individuals who had absolutely nothing to do with the incident involving the police officer and his assailant. They literally put innocent people out of business and placed hundreds, perhaps thousands, on the unemployment line. In fact, they did it throughout the country.
  • With the likes of the tax-evading, race-baiting thug like Al Sharpton, these punks exploited the incident for one purpose only: to further destroy any semblance of what makes a society civil.
  • No where was this false narrative and myth more blatant than several of the St. Louis Rams football team who made the mythical "hands-up" gesture prior to their game yesterday. Whether those dummies know it or not, they too continued to perpetuate a false narrative. Then again, they are football players---people not generally known for their intellectual abilities anyway.
  • The fact is these same punks---black or white---not only don't want to face the facts of this case, they continue to be delusional about the real leading cause of death of most black young men and it's not from cops. It's their homicide rate.
  • But we can make these points until we're blue in the face. It makes no difference to punks whose only goal is to disrupt society. In addition to the progressive political class, the media should also be ashamed of their own reporting during the last two weeks. For example, a shooting that was never about race, suddenly became about race.
  • While Brown may be a symbol to some of what's wrong with parts of our legal system, many of these misguided fools could care less about the facts and the truth. To them both are irrelevant. They dismiss those facts to promote an agenda based on lies and deceit. And what better way of doing that than burning a town down---even if it happens to be their own town.
