GOP Trying To Keep Elderly Voting Base Alive Until November...Onion's political headline
- In my piece yesterday, I referred to the knee-pad media proclaiming the Sikh shooter was an Army veteran within a few minutes of the shootings. On the other hand, they withheld reporting anything about the Ft. Hood shooter for almost a day even though they knew he was an Islamist fanatic. For example, for almost a full day, the Drudge headline referred to him as an "Army Vet." Headlines across the country mimicked that headline. In fact, they continued using it even after it was revealed the shooter had ties to White Supremacists. There's only one reason the media does this when it comes to the few veterans or active military who commit major crimes: they want to try to prove they are nuts. They continue to do this even though the crime rate among the over 20 million veterans in this country is so low it barely registers on any data sheet.
- And raising this "crazed Vet"" and/or "crazed military" myth is not specific to the news media. Hollywood has been doing it for years with movies like "Platoon" that featured fragging and "Casualties of War" when Sean Penn's character ordered his soldiers to kidnap, rape and kill a Vietnamese girl. And the number of times crazed vets have been featured on TV dramas is too great to list here (along with crooked cops).
- Right now, as of this writing, we only know this as John Podhoretz points out so well today: "He's a Nazi. Not a soldier."
- He's also been called a "Domestic Terrorist." Why wasn't the guy who killed all those people in Aurora called a "Domestic Terrorist?" Hey, just askin'.
- Keep in mind, these are the same people who elevate the likes of Che, Castro and other Commie pricks to heroes. In fact, I've seen more punks wearing the Che tee shirt over the years than tees with patriotic messages. Oh, one more thing. Sean Penn is campaigning for that scumbag, Commie prick, Hugo Chavez, in Venezuela.
- One of the predictions of the "Cash for Clunkers" program two years ago was that used cars would be rising in price. Simple supply and demand. So many good used cars were destroyed by that idiotic program that now the price of used cars is edging closer to the price of new cars (USA TODAY). Other reasons include people holding on to their vehicles longer because of the recession. In addition, car leasing has dried up. All of this leaves fewer used cars on the lots. And those that remain are more expensive now.
- Even the Washington Post appears to be fed up with Harry Reid. They gave him 4 Pinocchios for his proclaiming Romney had not paid taxes for 10 years. The Post points out Romney paid substantial taxes as noted in his 2010 and 2011 tax returns. (Oh, yes, one more thing. Reid is refusing to release his own tax returns).
- But let us not kid ourselves. Democrats love this diversion with this prick as much as the media does. Anything works that takes voters attention away from how bad this administration is managing the country.
- If you are a business person and not in NY City, thank your lucky stars. City Council President, Chris Quinn (the same nitwit who does not want Chick fil A in NYC and who is rumored to want to run for mayor) wants business owners to offer their employees nine paid sick days (five if you have under 20 employees). It's estimated this could cost employers anywhere from about $300 million to almost $800 million more a year (estimates vary from that low $300 to $800 million because two accountant studies came up with both those numbers). Whatever the real numbers are, all who have looked at this agree on one thing: it will cost a lot of jobs. Manhattan Institute
- Obama attended his 199th fundraiser this week.
- And for all those who still bash Republicans for their lack of diversity, here's some news. Speakers at the Republican Convention with include former Sect. of State Condoleezza Rice, Gov. Nikki Haley of S. Carolina and New Mexico Governor, Susana Martinez. Or as liberals like to tally: A black. A Hispanic. An Indian. And all women.
- President Obama's "Deportation-Reprieve" of over 800,000 illegal immigrants will begin on August 15. The Migration Policy Institute, a pro-amnesty organization, estimates that the actual number will be double that and up to 1.7 million illegal immigrants would get work permits and be eligible for work. I say: good luck finding work. Almost 11% of Latinos are now out of work.
