Romney Leads In Major Polls; Santorum: The True Compassionate Conservative---Say What?; Sarah McKinley & The Second Amendment; Black Unemployment Remains at 15.8%; Idolizing Nitwits Like Martin Sheen and The Kardashian

Headline in this week, The Onion: "Obama Openly Asks Nation Why On Earth He Would Want To Serve Another Term."  Funny, many Americans keep asking themselves the same question.

I normally give myself and my readers a rest from my rants on weekends, but there's just too much happening in the world of politics and news as the following will show:

  • With just a few days left to the New Hampshire primary, Mitt Romney is leading in several major polls including Time/CNN, Rasmussen and Suffolk University. As of today, he has a comfortable lead with numbers ranging from 37% in CNN to 40% in Rasmussen and Suffolk. He appears---at least in New Hampshire---to have cracked the 25% ceiling.

  • But, as many know by now, Rick Santorum is experiencing his own surge. In South Carolina, as of today, Romney leads Santorum 27%-24% (Rasmussen/Suffolk). The Left portrays him as being anti-gay (he does not support gay marriage. Pres. Obama himself has not been clear on whether he supports gay marriage. He's said in the past; his position is "evolving."). And Santorum is against abortion. Okay, he's very conservative on many social issues. But does that make him a bad candidate for the presidency? I will say this regarding gay issues in general. Republicans, in my opinion, do not understand that among a majority of young people today, gay rights is the civil rights issue of their generation. Republicans don't appear to understand this reality.
  • Yet, when I review Santorum's overall record I see he's very consistent unlike many of the other candidates. Even more appealing to many people is the fact that he's politically courageous. And many on the Left will probably not agree with this assessment, but his record shows he was a true compassionate conservative. As senator, he led efforts to fight TB. He also led efforts to help orphans and children in developing countries. He led efforts in providing housing for people with AIDS. He also led the charge to increase funding for Social Services Block Grants. And he was one of the few congressmen who actually tried to do something about the genocide in the Sudan (NY Times). Just as important, it's widely accepted that Santorum knows a thing or two about foreign affairs. So for those critics of Santorum, I have a message. It's from my blog's motto: the truth (about Santorum) will alleviate your pain.
  • I'll let you in on a little secret. The guy who can beat Obama? John Huntsman.

  • Didn't anyone else find it interesting that many in the media were just delighted with the unemployment rate at 8.5%? Can you imagine celebrating unemployment at a staggering 8.5%? And Blacks should be very concerned. Their unemployment rate (official rate) is at 15.8%---exactly where it was in 2010.  Hispanic unemployment rose from 11% to 12.9%. Dept. of Labor  And yet---these same two demographics will vote overwhelmingly for Pres. Obama again.
  • Documents dumped yesterday, show that labor unions are still getting a majority of the waivers from ObamaCare. How many workers do these labor unions respresent? Just under 600,000. Daily Caller

  • In today's NY Post, Rich Lowry has a great suggestion. He wants Sarah McKinley to be nominated as "Mother of the Year." Who is Sarah McKinley. She's the mom who protected and saved herself and her baby when she blew away an intruder who tried to break into her home. And the 911 call is interesting to listen to. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please have a dispatcher out here immediately?" The answer was basically "no," because the area she was in only had 3 police officers covering a 12,000 square mile area.  She then got to her point with the 911 operator. "I have two guns in my hand...is it OK to shoot him if he comes in the door?' The 911 operator, according to the report, was not that clear. But replied, "I can't tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby." That was all McKinley needed to hear as the confrontation between her and Justin Martin, the 24-year-old intruder, ended up with Martin dead of a single gunshot wound. He was armed with a knife. Martin's accomplice told police they were both high on drugs and thought they could find some medication in McKinley's house. Sarah McKinley is a hero and illustrates how important the 2nd Amendment is for every American.

  • Ever wonder about a society that idolizes the likes of Martin Sheen, the nitwits on "The Jersey Shore" and the Kardashians instead of our real heroes. Look up. You'll see the names of some of our real heroes.
