Black Lives Matter as do all lives---contrary to what many in the Black Lives Movement want the public to know. But the mystery to me and many others is why so many blacks support the progressive political class especially in light of progressives having exploited blacks for decades.
The history of the progressive political class towards blacks has not been kind. And while former segregationist like Al Gore Sr., William Fulbright, Byrd and other Democrats (including Bill Clinton who praised Fulbright) renounced their racist past, it's Democrats who continually throw out the race card. I always find this interesting considering I don't recall the race card ever being thrown at former Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson's "War On Poverty" initiative is largely responsible for the total collapse of the black family in America. I've often written "poverty won the War on Poverty" considering we now have some of the highest rates of poverty in our history.
But it's not even necessary to go back 4 decades or more. Blacks overwhelmingly continue to support Pres. Obama and the progressive political class even though their unemployment rates remain unacceptably high (about 9%). In addition, the black middle class---as the white middle class---has taken a financial beating over the last 7 years. So after four decades of voting for Democrats, what do blacks have to show for it economically? (the societal and cultural damage would take another posting to explain). Moreover, all one has to do is look at how decimated many Democrat controlled cities have been for the last 30 years or more to know---Republicans haven't been the problem.
As far as the Black Lives Movement is concerned, if they had any credibility at all, they would be protesting on the steps of Congress. The black community continues to suffer the most under progressive policies whose foundation includes segregation, racism and exploitation. No where was this exploitation more conspicuous than a recent piece in the Washington Post that posed the question: "Blacks Die Sooner Than Whites. How Many Votes Has This Caused Democrats?" While one can understand the underlying reason for such a headline (the CDC reports that homicide is the leading cause of death for blacks between the ages of 15-24), I've never heard a Republican or conservative even consider such a disgraceful exploitation of a voting class. In fact, it's in the Republican Party where many black conservatives continue to flourish including, but not limited to, Mia Love, Allen West, Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Dr. Ben Carson and Condi Rice while progressives point to the likes of Al Sharpton and his ilk.
A question I often pose is simple: how long will blacks continue to be self-deluded about the progressive political class? I don't know the answer. But I do know this. As long as they continue to be---the path to self-destruction will remain a long one. It's already lasted four decades.
Perhaps this paints a better picture. Democrats keep taking blacks to the dance but then blacks have to find the ride home themselves.
