Americans should know: If Iran's Ayatollah even thinks of violating the nuclear agreement, Obama will not hesitate to unfriend him...WH Press Secretary Tweet (satire)
At last week's 9/11 commemoration, I couldn't help thinking how much we've changed in the last 14 years. We went from denouncing terrorism to making deals with global terrorist states like Iran. In fact, just before the Senate approved the Iran Deal last week, Iran's thug-in-chief Ayatollah actually said, "God willing, there will be no Zionist regime in 25 years." On many occasions and too many to count, he's also declared that Israel will be eliminated. As Michael Goodwin of the NY Post pointed out recently: "Lenin supposedly boasted that 'the capitalist will sell us the rope with which we will hang them'...Actually, we didn't sell our enemies anything. We gave it to them." I believe someone once warned us that if we ignore history, we do it at our own peril.
But what makes all of this even more disturbing, almost every poll taken in the last several months shows only a fraction of Americans support the deal. For example, Pew found only 21% support the deal with Iran. CNN reported 56% of Americans thought Congress should reject the deal. Quinnipiac found only 28% support it.
The same can be said for ObamaCare. An ABC/Washington Post Poll this summer found support for the law was at an all-time low at only 39%. That was down 10 points from last year.
We see a presidential candidate in Hillary Clinton whose poll numbers are sinking faster than a boat without a hull. Yet, she remains a viable candidate among many in the political class (at least, for now). Moreover, even when one gazes out at the Democrat bench, it resembles a recycle bin.
The Republican elite are not much different. After two mid-term landslides, they promised their base they would oppose many of the Obama administration's dictates, yet most of those promises have not materialized. In fact, Boehner appears to have a hard time climbing off his bar stool to do anything significant except voice some concerns and then climbs right back on the stool. Mitch McConnell, the leader in the Senate, offers up gems like: "It's time for Congress to get its priorities straight." And then retracts into his shell again.
All of these examples and more clearly illustrate how the elite political class shows open contempt for the American people. Even more disturbing, many of these elites elevate their warped ideologies over the safety and welfare of their OWN nation.
And before I conclude, I know we're a Republic. When I use the term "will of the people," I'm generally referring to those who represent us.
Postscript: And any wonder Trump is doing so well?
