Asking Once Again: Has The Obama Administration "Jumped The Shark?"---Obama Is Now At 37% Approval

Despite the shutdown, the congressional gym in Washington D.C., remains open. The congressional gym is like any other gym except the customers are the dumbbells...Ferguson

Note: Since this was posted, millions have lost their health insurance and the Obamacare web site is still garbage (down today again).
  • Earlier this year, I posed the question: Has Obama jumped the shark? I asked that question during the sequestration scare by the administration and Democrats. I pointed out that even the Late Nite comics as well as SNL were mocking the claims that were being made by the administration. At the time, Peggy Noonan wrote a piece entitled, "Obamas are everywhere but doing nothing." She also correctly pointed out the administration and Democrats used scare tactics and then let the media do the rest.
  • At the same time, there were several reports by the media of threats made by the administration against them. Jonathan Alter of MSNBC and a long-time Obama suck-up, reported he was threatened by the administration for writing something they did not like. The NY Post even wrote a long piece about the media complaining of threats by the administration. In fact, Bill Plante, one of the deans at CBS News, said, "They're {Obama administration} are undercutting the First Amendment."
  • After all of that and more (just the continued conspicuous failures in domestic and foreign policy for the last 5 years), I really believed the administration had jumped the shark. I might have made that claim a tad early.
  • At that time, even though the media was being attacked by the administration, they continued to circle the wagons to protect the progressive political class. After all, they are part of it.
  • But I contend all of this may just have changed in the last two weeks with the shutdown and the way WWII vets were treated last week at their own Memorial. Even more disturbing, after  WWII vets were barred from honoring their war dead, illegal immigrants were permitted to hold a rally. In fact, three dozen or more Democrats attended that rally. None---to our knowledge---visited any Veteran memorials.
Unfortunately, the pain, misery, punishment and inconvenience imposed by this administration and government did not end there. To date, we've seen the following actions by our own government against our citizens:

  • The National Institutes of Health (NIH) was ordered to stop therapy dogs from visiting sick children.
  • At Yellowstone, tourists were locked in their hotel under armed guard. Many thought they had been arrested.
  • Shutdown has denied death benefits to families of fallen soldiers (Congress will no doubt restore this shortly after all the outrage).
  • Vietnam Veterans and tourists were removed from the Vietnam Vet Memorial.
  • Although privately funded, historic Fords Theater was closed.
  • Federal prison guards were not getting paid. But wait. Inmates were.
  • The historic Miramar Air Show was cancelled with a ONE DAY notice.
  • Amber Alert Web site was taken off-line. It has since been restored.
  • Important USDA websites were shutdown.
  • Furloughed military chaplains were warned not to work for free or they would be punished.
  • The American Forces Network was shut down. This meant our troops would be unable to even watch NFL and MLB games on TV. But news would still be broadcast.
  • A Park Ranger admitted last week: "We've been told to make life as difficult for people as we can."
And yesterday, this president who always talks about ensuring civility into our discourse, contrasted that by demonizing Republicans in his speech yesterday, and he used language such as Republicans are demanding a "ransom" and using "extortion." He couldn't help himself. He also referred to them as "ideological extremists."

"Jumping the shark" is defined as the moment when a television show begins to decline in quality that is beyond recovery. I think we just might be witnessing that with the Obama administration.
