Obama Keeps Tacking Against Public Opinion

Make no mistake, if the illegals dare to vote the GOP ticket, Obama will round up all 10 million himself and ship their asses back...WH Press Secretary Tweet

Those who sail understand tacking a sailboat. In short, in order to sail "up-wind," you must tack back and forth across the wind. That's essentially what the Obama administration continues to do even after it's major losses in the last mid-term elections.

Neera Tanden, a former top aid to Pres. Obama and a major consultant to the progressive political class, said of Obama: "The truth is Obama doesn't call anyone and he's not close to almost anyone...He really doesn't like people. My analogy is it's like becoming Bill Gates without liking computers."

Tanden is not the first former Obama aid or staffer whose made that claim. Almost all former Obama insiders describe a president who rarely takes advice from anyone else. In fact, with Chuck Hagel's dismissal today, his inevitable book should be delicious.

And that gets me to the point of this piece today. Consider the following that's occurred since the mid-terms:

  • The Obama administration announced it would extend the military's combat role in Afghanistan beyond 2015. Last May, he promised we would withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. From his fawning media and his progressive base?---white noise.
  • At the end of last week, the IRS announced it had found 30,000 of Lois Lerner's emails. Last Spring, the IRS reported it had lost two years worth of her emails. Again---white noise.
  • Then last week, Obama announces his most recent immigration initiatives. No white noise from the media---instead---orgasmic celebrations from the progressives and illegal immigrant activists. By the way, as I write this, it's been reported that 12% of students in NY State are children of illegal immigrants costing the taxpayers $50M more in school funding. NY Post
As more Americans now know, Obama's word is largely meaningless. Gruber revealed just that two weeks ago regarding Obamacare. But that's just one of a plethora of lies in the last six years. As I've mentioned on several occasions, the first impulse of this administration and the progressive political class (including its media) is to lie and deceive the American people.

Tacking back to Tandem's statements, it appears Obama could care less about his own base. How else can you explain sending more troops to Iraq and extending our military role in Afghanistan? The fact that he's a lame-duck president can explain some of his behavior. But it's even more disturbing. He doesn't give a crap about what we care about. He never has. For example, even today, Obamacare is still not popular with most Americans. The most recent Gallup Poll reports only 45% believe it's the government's responsibility to make sure everyone has health-care coverage.

Peggy Noonan pointed out recently that "The White House is driven ...by a kind of political nihilism. They agitate, aggravate, fray and separate." Unfortunately, Americans have two more years sailing with a captain who doesn't care which way the wind is blowing.
